I gave birth to my baby girl Marcelina at 31 week of my pregnancy on April 4. She is at the NIU at the moment, for a week she had the silo bag. Last Monday she had the closing up surgery.

Thank you all very very much. We have our ups and downs. From April 7 to 14 she had the silo bag. The repair began at the time of delivery, when the exposed abdominal contents were placed in a protective covering. She was born at 11.13 and at 15.00 the silastic sheeting, so called "silo,” was placed around the herniated bowel. The silo was then reduced daily at the bedside until the abdominal contents were level with the skin. On Monday April 14 at 13.00 she was taken to the operating room for final closure. Until the surgery, due to painkillers and other drugs making her flabby she required ventilatory assistance however she could breathe herself when she was born. She was 48 cm long and weighed 1900 g. - (Currently 1860 g). She was born without 12th pair of ribs (we say she won't have to remove them like Cher if she wishes to have a slimmer waist Smile) For last 3 weeks she was fed intravenously.

Unfortunately, few days after the surgery, sepsis occured. We were terrified as we weren't sure what can we expect. They applied antybiotics: meronem, vancomicin, and dalacin C and a strong painkiller - morfine. Next her platelates level drastically went down and doctors suspected DIC. However test for AT III has shown everything is ok.
Currently we are expecting haemoculture control results as it seems sepsis is gone already.

Next she developed small anemia so they transferred her some blood.

Yesterday surgeon has decided to give her 5 ml of 5% glucose every 3h via a naso-gastric tube, however IV feeds continue.
First trials of NG feeds weren't so successful. she vommitted twice today with a green contant of the stomach and her belly became swollen and hard. (Since surgery she lies either on one or the other side).

Currently she doesn't get morfine just simple painkillers so she feels more pain and cries more often. At least I know she is alive Smile I spend a lot of time with her. I have a chance to hold her in my arms sometimes and I can change her nappies. We know that if everything goes well NG feeds will be slowly increased and maybe she will get my breast milk, and I will start oral feeding. Time will show.
