My daughter was born with Gastroschisis, and everything seemed to be going perfectly fine. She's 5yrs old now, and we are just finding out that she has a 50% gastric delay, meaning her stomach is emptying 50% slower than it should be. Now I'm going through all kinds of tests to try and find the problem and I was just curious if anyone else had gone through this.

Hi
Sorry to here that your daughter's having to have tests.

My little one Niamh was born with gastro and is 3 on Wed. Interested to know what symptoms your daughter had to make a diagnosis of 50% delay. Niamh has had problems since birth with chronic constipation and had a barium swallow done but the contents of it took so long to pass through her that her body finally absorbed it instead of her pooing it out!!!! She is on drugs to improve gut motility and also has problems with gastric reflux so was wondering if she had similar problem

She had the gastric reflux for a long time, chronic constipation, and every so often she'll throw up in the morning or the middle of the night and be fine afterwards, so I knew that it wasn't stomach viruses. The vomitting was what made the gastroenterologist want to run the gastric delay test. It came back at 50% and then we just did the Upper GI to see if perhaps scar tissue was causing a partial obstruction, but according to the Doctor who ran the test, he didn't see anything, so now I'm sure there will be a multitude of tests to determine what is causing the problem. She too is taking medicine for motility. I don't have it handy, so I'm not sure of the name of it. I hope this information helps you.
