hi i too had a bad time at the QMC
my sons gastro wasn't picked up on any of the scans,
i had him in the ambulance on the way to hospital,
they didn't even tell me where they were taking him or why when they whisked him out of the delivery room,
afterwards he was in hospital for 6wks,
he kept getting a sore bottom but they still let him home.
while he was in i was treated like i wasn't there, i didn't get told half as much as i should have done.
his surgeon was miss kapila,
out patients was even worse,
his bottom never got better, it just got worse and worse,
to the point of his skin peeling off each time he filled his nappy,
changing could take an hour,
each appointment she would ask if i was keeping him clean properly and dissmissed my idea's that maybe the op and this were somehow related,
then when he was about 18mths she decided that they would take him in for a couple of weeks for 'observation' to see if bathing him regular would solve the problem.
imagine how that made me feel.
nothing changed untill one day after the first week in there he started to vomit and the diorhea got worse, i left him there and went in the next morning,
i went to where his cot was and turned to walk away because i thought they'd moved him,
it was only when i glimpsed the name on the wall behind i realised it was him.
he had gone from a chubby baby to skin and bone,
i ran to the nurses and told them and said i needed him weighed, they told me not to be silly and he would be weighed the next day as planned,
it was only when i said i would take him home that they came to see.
they weighed him and within minutes he had doctors and nurses rushing round him, taking blood, doing tests and hooking him up to a drip.
he was on the drip for 3 days and guess what, his sore bottom cleared up like magic,
they suggested a diet change (nobody would listen to me when i said it)
poor little thing couldn't even tolerate soya milk and had to have pre digested soya for about a year,
he is now on a lactose/dairy free diet and although his motions are still loose he is otherwise a fit and healthy 18year old.
