I wanted to know,

How many have had vaginal births?

Those who had c-sections was it scheduled or was it emergency?

How far along was everyone when they delivered?

And how long was your stay at the hospital with baby?

Have any had more then one child with gastroschisis?

I would really appreicate anyone who can help with these questions

Thanks
Mica

Hi Mica,
My daughter Liberty is 4 now and she was born vaginally - I was scheduled to be induced but she decided wanted to come early and was born at 38 weeks. I was always advised that unless it was an emergency that a vaginal delivery is better for the babies, because the bowel can absorb water before the baby is born a vaginal delivery squashes some of that out.
Liberty was in hospitial for 9 months in total - 4.5 months after birth then home for 1 month then back in again - she was a bad case though and she ended up with other complications not connected to the Gastro.
Liberty was my second child so we stuck at 2, her consultant told me that we are at no higher risk of having another child with Gastro just because we have had one before, we only wanted 2 children anyway.
Her consultant also told me that Liberty was not any higher risk of having a gastro baby herself, because they don't know what causes it. I guess that might change in her life time but I will wait and see.
Please continue to ask questiions if the forum was still on here from when I was pregnant and afterwards also you would be shocked by how many posts I put on this board!!
Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome to a very special elite club,
Claire x x x

hello mica,
my gaughter who is now 2 was born at 37 weeks, she was induced because as claire says they think it is better for the baby, but after a very long 28 hours and not much progress she became distressed and was delivered by emergency c-section.
gen's hospital stay was 18 days in total and she has had no problems since.
i only have one child (shes enough at the moment as she has the famous gasto temperament!). i've heard that it is VERY unlikely to have 2 gastro babies, although having said that i think i have read about 1 family where they did have 2.
good luck with everything and always feel free to ask any questions.

Hi Mica

To answer your questions -

I had a vaginal birth, tho; was in theatre for a c-section but last minute they used
ventouse to get my son out..
(Like a previous reply I too was told that a vaginal delivery is best as forces baby to
use lungs etc and extra fluid is lost...)

I had my son at 36 weeks - not scheduled, my waters broke.

My son was very fortunate and despite not having full closure at his first op
came home at four weeks old.

I have since had a daughter - without gastroschisis.

Hope this helps
Joanna

hiya

I had a c section with my daughter who is now 14 and a half months old. she was supposed to have been an induced birth at 37+2 weeks, however the day before she stopped moving. A scan revealed she was breech and her bowel appeared to be twisted so she was delivered by emergency c section.

Ella was only in hospital for 15 days in total - 5 days in intensive care and the rest of the time on ward. she did really well.

I am currently 25 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 who doesn't have gastro.

hope this all helps
xx

Hi! I had a vaginal birth at 37 weeks. I went in for my typical ultrasound and non-stress test (I was going for these test 3x a week starting at 28 weeks.) The baby wasn't moving much and his stomach started to swell-so they induced labor that day. He was born on a Sat. and I left the hospital on Mon. He was in the NICU for 30 days-but is home and doing great now Very Happy

Hi,
I also had a vaginal birth, after being told by my doctors that they prefer this as mentioned earlier. I was due to be induced at 38weeks, but Ruby decided she didnt want to wait that long and was born at 34 weeks after my waters broke. My labour was quick and Ruby was wrapped and had the silo on within 3hours and i was able to see her.
I too was worried about having more children as this is our first and my husband and I woulkd like a big family, but we too were told that having one gastro child doesn't increase the risk of having anymore, as they dont know what actually causes it.
We were in Sheffield Childrens hospital for 10weeks, a little longer than i originally anticipated as many stories I read were around 4-5weeks. However the nurses did say that they were lucky cases and they really expect it a little longer, and every baby is completly different so don't be dissapointed if your are there longer. I never thought we were going to get home as it seemed like so far away. But now looking back it doesnt seem like five minutes of our life. Ruby is now 12weeks old and we have only been home two weeks but all of the worry was worth it as she is such a happy and contented little girl.
Congratulations and good luck. although you wont need it, When i first found out about Ruby I look on this web-site and lots of mums said they had found Gastro babys were very strong characters and do you know they are so right!
