Hello,
I am the mother of a 4 month old Gastroschisis baby. She was born at 36 weeks... 4 lbs 8 oz... IUGR just bowel out. She was siloed and repaired at 6 days. She was in the NICU 30 days. She is on meds for reflux since coming home but aside from being a little small... 11 1/2 lbs... she is normal. I have a couple of questions... Does anyone have a gastro baby where nothing else happened as far as the gastro goes? Also, I can't believe I am saying this, but we are thinking of having another. Does anyone have another child that has any birth defects? Were subsequent pregnancies "normal?" Do I have a chance of having a normal pregnancy after a gastro one? Thanks for all the advice!!

Hi Ashley,
Congratulations on your little girl! My Gastro baby Avariella is now 2 years old and has had no complications due to her gastro. I'm now 25 weeks pregnant with #2. The beginning of this pregnancy was rough wondering if she would have problems as well. But my doctor has given this baby a clean bill of health. Although things can change in an instance with any pregnancy all ultrasounds and test have came back normal. I was told by doc's when we begin trying for #2 that the chance of gastro repeating itself was not high enough to consider not having another child. I believe having a gastro baby only raises the risk by 1-2 percent. i would not worry about it to much enjoy life and build your family.
Congrats Agian

Hiya
My little girl Ella is now 13 and a half months old. She has had no problems as a result of her gastro apart from being a little on the small side (although her dad is 5'5" so might just be genetic!) I am currently 21 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 and had my anomaly scan today. The sonographer said the baby looks perfect, and everything is as it should be. I think because there is no known reason why gastroschisis occurs, ie not genetic or anything it would be real bad luck if it was to happen again. as far as i know you're no more likely to have another baby with gastro than any other random person.
Good luck and happy trying!!
